Geography

The Dominican Republic contains a strong climate with the amount of precipitation and weather. The Dominican Republic has a total land area of 48,730 square kilometers with a 1,288-kilometer coastline. The Dominican Republic contains a humid and very tropical climate in the Caribbean and Atlantic oceans. The average temperature is 22.2° C (72°F) to 28.3° C (83°F) with colder temperatures falling to 15.6° C (60°F) to the hotter days being 32.2°C (90°F). As for the precipitation, the Dominican Republic accommodates for a mean rainfall of 1,390mm to 1520mm (55 in to 60 in). Different regions of the country undergo different conditions like the Samaná Peninsula, La Vega, El Seibo, and the Puerto Plata region receive moderately heavy rainfall, although Santiago de los Caballeros, Monte Cristi, and the Neiba Valley receive scant rains. The Dominican Republic receives hurricanes from the Caribbean which pass through the east and the west. Overall, The Dominican Republic is a very tropical place with great beaches such as Punta Cana. The Dominican Republic possesses a variety of altitudes and terrains. The terrain is mostly rugged highlands and mountainous areas with fertile valleys interspersed. There are many rainforests and Mountain ranges in the Dominican Republic like Pico Duarte, which contains the highest point of 10,417 feet. Today, about 43 percent of the land is covered by forest and woodland. Freshwater on the island is often polluted with microbes, and both tap water and water in streams are unsafe to drink. Overall the Dominican Republic is an amazing place for rainforest, mountains, and water for its hot temperature.
